Polyurethane

Polyurethane is a thermoplastic elastomer, a highly elastic structural material with good anti-friction properties. In mechanics, depending on the manufacturer, it can be of various colors and have various brand names, such as Vulkollan, Fibroflex, etc. Vulkollan, Fibroflex, etc. Chemical designation: PU.

Properties:

  • Resistant to abrasion, wear, and tearing;
  • Has very good volumetric rebound, even after prolonged deformation;
  • Very good vibration and shock absorption;
  • Resistant to grease and most petroleum products;
  • Good anti-friction properties;
  • Hardness:
    • 75 Shore A – light yellow color;
    • 90 Shore A – light blue color;
  • Density: 1.15 g/cm3;
  • Operating temperature from -30 ºC to +80 ºC.

Due to its unique properties, polyurethane is increasingly used in various fields:

  • Automotive industry: used for engine mounts, chassis bushings (“sailenblokai”), which often have a longer service life than the original parts.
  • Industry: used to manufacture drive shaft couplings (“cups”), large-diameter star wheels for transporting bottles, conveyor belts, conveyor belt scrapers, various wheels, rollers, and coated shafts. The interior of bunkers exposed to extremely strong abrasives (coal, gravel, metal chips) is coated.
  • In construction and road machinery: vibrating plate bases, high-power concrete mixer blades, road roller scrapers, snow plow blades.

Polyurethane – a versatile material for industrial and technical applications

Polyurethane (PU) is an extremely elastic yet mechanically resistant technical material widely used in both industrial and domestic applications. Its structure ensures exceptional resistance to abrasion, pressure, impact, and chemicals. UAB Almeida offers various types of polyurethane products that can be adapted to specific areas such as the automotive, furniture, construction, transport, food, packaging, and manufacturing industries.

Use in mechanical systems, sealing, and protection solutions

Polyurethane is most often used as an alternative to rubber or plastic when a more durable, load-resistant solution is required. Rigid polyurethane is used in the manufacture of various mechanical parts: from shafts and rollers to shock absorbers, sieves, and wheels. Liquid polyurethane is an excellent choice for molding solutions when non-standard shapes need to be filled. Foam polyurethane with a closed or open cell structure is widely used in thermal insulation, especially when low weight and tightness are important.

Resistance to abrasion, impact, chemical attack and deformation

Polyurethane is exceptionally resistant to abrasion, impact, moisture, UV rays and various chemical solutions and petroleum products. These properties allow the material to retain its shape and functional characteristics even under conditions of intensive use. This makes it ideal for applications such as snow plows, road rollers, concrete mixers, and vibrating plates, where constant material strength and stability are required.

Different hardness and elasticity classes according to requirements

Depending on requirements, cast polyurethane with a hardness measured on the Shore A scale can be used, ranging from softer to extremely hard (e.g., 75 Shore A light yellow, 90 Shore A light blue). This allows you to choose the optimal option for each project – both where flexibility and shock absorption are required, and where resistance to strong pressure is essential.

Processing options and technical solutions

UAB Almeida offers a wide range of polyurethane products and custom manufacturing using various processing methods. This allows us to respond flexibly to customer needs in Kaunas, Vilnius, Šiauliai, Panevėžys, Klaipėda, and throughout Lithuania.

Flexible adaptation to casting, cutting, or milling processes

Polyurethane is ideal for molding, milling, cutting, and drilling. This allows us to manufacture both precise, small parts and massive elements such as polyurethane plates, rollers, rollers, or even curtains and protective elements for equipment. Such components are widely used in conveyor systems, transport equipment, and mechanical couplings.

Stable physical properties under temperature and load fluctuations

The working temperature range of polyurethane, from -30 ºC to +80 ºC, allows this material to be used both outdoors and indoors, where intensive cyclic work processes take place. This is particularly important when exposed to moisture, cold, heat, or vibration. The material retains its properties even under frequent deformation and has excellent volume memory, so even prolonged pressure does not cause permanent deformation.

Long service life under intensive working conditions

Due to its high resistance to mechanical stress and environmental influences, polyurethane lasts longer than most other materials. For this reason, it is increasingly being chosen instead of rubber, plastic, or metal components that need to be replaced frequently. Polyurethane for furniture and polyurethane for cars are areas where resistance, elasticity, and long service life are considered top priorities.
